Day 9 of 75 days in Faith
Availability is Our Greatest Ability
But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. — Ephesians 4:7, 11-12 (NIV)
We live in a fast paced world, where time and what we do with it dictates how much (availability) we have.
We often find ourselves consumed with personal tasks, schedules, and ambitions. Yet, in God’s kingdom, the greatest ability we can have is not talent, wealth, or status, but (availability).
(Availability) is our greatest ability to serve others. It’s not about being the most qualified or the most visible person in the room, it’s about being ready and willing to be used by God wherever He calls us.
In 1 Corinthians 12:12, we are reminded that the Church, the body of Christ, is made up of many parts, and every joint supplies something important. We are the hands and feet of the Lord, and He has placed us on this earth to help others, to serve others, and to point them back to Him.
But, how can we make ourselves available to serve?
(Start with Awareness)
When we open our eyes and hearts to the needs around us, we see opportunities to serve. Whether it’s offering a kind word, a helping hand, or even just listening to someone’s struggles—God is faithful to direct our hearts to where He needs us most.
(Serve Without Recognition)
It’s tempting to want recognition for the things we do, but true service is done quietly, humbly, and without expectation of applause. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:3-4 that we should give in secret, without letting our left hand know what our right hand is doing. Serving in private, without recognition, allows us to fulfill that very scripture.
(Evaluate Our Own Efforts)
On day 9 of 75 days in Faith, ask yourself…
Have I actively sought out opportunities to serve those who are less fortunate?
The poor in spirit, the lonely, the neglected?
Remember, only what you do for God will last. Everything else is fleeting. When you serve others as if you’re serving the Lord (Colossians 3:23), your actions take on eternal value. Serving in the name of Jesus is never wasted; it builds His Kingdom, and it builds us into more Christlike individuals.
Today, take a moment to reflect on your availability. Ask God to open your heart and direct your steps to opportunities to serve. It might be something small, like helping a neighbor, or it might be more significant, like volunteering at a shelter or serving within your church community. Whatever it is, remember that every act of service, done in love, glorifies God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the grace You’ve given each of us to serve in Your Kingdom. Today, we ask for a heart of availability that is ready and willing to follow Your call, no matter the task.
Help us to be mindful of the needs around us and to (serve without expectation) while offering our hands, our time, and our hearts to You.
Teach us to see each opportunity as a chance to reflect Your love and grace, knowing that even the smallest act of service done in Your name, carries eternal value.
May we serve humbly, for Your glory alone.
