Day 25 of 75 days in Faith
Self-Control, Obedience, and the Path to Blessings
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 – “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body, and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
As we journey through these 75 days of faith, we are learning what it means to be transformed by the power of God.
The key to transformation often comes down to two important strengths: self-control and obedience. Self-control is the ability to restrain our desires, and impulses in order to align with God’s will.
Isaiah 1:19 says, if we be willing, and obedient we shall eat of the good of the land!
Obedience is the act of following God’s commands even when it’s difficult. When we combine both obedience, and self control; we put ourselves in a great position to receive God’s blessings in ways we can’t even imagine!
(Self-Control is The Foundation of Obedience)
Self-control is not only about resisting temptation; it’s also about choosing God’s will above our own.
Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, and also a major part of our walk with the Lord. It helps us to live in a way that reflects Jesus’ character, and allows us to draw others closer to Him through our example.
We as believers, have to walk it like we talk it. People are not only listening to what we say, they’re also watching what we do!
On this journey in Faith, we must remember, Self-control is a (spiritual discipline) that helps us say “no”!!!
No to what?
To the things that would cause us to stumble on our walk with God, and hinder our ability to walk in obedience.
This fruit of the Spirit, is tested the most when temptation presents itself. So we must train ourselves to recognize the signs of temptation; as well as listen to the Holy Spirit who’s always warns us in advance!
Mastering self-control strikes a blow to our flesh, and gives us dominion over our mind, and body.
Self-control is highly potent!!!
One small act of self-control, can ignite a consistent flow of discipline that could lead to you opening a business, writing a book, or getting into the best shape of your life!
The education of self-control is very enlightening in and of itself, but the application of it is one of the most powerful forms of worship!!!
Jesus showed us this example as the devil tempted Him in the wilderness; while He was in a very vulnerable position.
Like Jesus, we must stand strong and fight back with the word of God when temptation arises…
Is it easy, absolutely not; is it possible? Absolutely!!!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of self-control, and the strength You provide to resist temptation.
Help me to stay focused on Your will, to be obedient to Your commands, and to master my desires so that I may live in a way that honors You.
Guide me on this journey of faith, and bless my efforts to grow in discipline, that I may be a reflection of Your love, and grace to others.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
