Day 31 of 75 Days in Faith
The Word of God Has to Be Stronger Than Your Feelings and Emotions
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
– Proverbs 4:23
On day 31 of 75 days in Faith, we will focus on why the word of God has to be stronger than our emotions.
Let’s face it, we as humans are creatures of emotion, and like the weather our feelings can change at any given moment!
One minute we can feel joy, and be excited and the next minute it can shift to anxiety, or sadness.
Given the variety of emotions that are possible at any given moment, we have to be armed with GODS WORD to apply scripture instead of emotions!
In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Paul urges us to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” This means we are to bring our emotions, anxieties, and even our doubts, into alignment with God’s truth!
So are we called to avoid our emotions and be emotionless…?
No!!!
Even Jesus had emotions in the Bible.
As a matter of fact, Jesus Himself faced (deep emotions) during His time on earth, in John 11:35 He wept, and in Matthew 26:38 He felt sorrow.
But, even though He experienced those emotions, He never let them dictate His moves; every move He made was based on the word of God.
A common phrase He used while being tempted by the devil was (It is written), that’s the moment Jesus chose to speak Gods word to counter everything the devil said.
When we get in our feelings, we become sensitive, emotional; and oftentimes our emotions can get the best of us; but even in those moments, like Jesus we need to remind ourselves It Is Written!
That’s why Proverbs 4:23 says, above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it!
On this Faith journey, it’s highly important that we recognize that our emotions are linked to the (condition of our hearts).
If our hearts are rooted in unforgiveness, hate, jealousy, or bitterness; those emotions will heavily influence our decisions, and response in the heat of the moment!
But when our hearts are rooted in love, and aligned with God’s Word, our emotions, and thoughts are shaped by His truth, rather than our circumstances.
(Gods word keeps us afloat)
When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.
– Isaiah 59:19
Life brings us many moments that tug at our emotions, and at times, these moments are like a river; calm on the surface, but underneath a very powerful current!
Currents can pull us under water, and keep us there, so we must hold on to the Word of God like a spiritual flotation device. So when these moments arise, we are attached to something that keeps us from sinking.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Today I declare that Your Word is stronger than my emotions, and I choose to guard my heart, and align my feelings with Your truth.
Though my emotions may shift like the weather, I will anchor myself in Your promises, and let them be the foundation of my thoughts and actions.
I declare that when the enemy comes in like a flood, Your Spirit will lift up a standard against him. I will not be swept away by fear, anxiety, or doubt; instead I will hold fast to Your Word, knowing that it will keep me afloat in every storm.
Lord, I surrender my heart to You…
Keep me rooted in Your love, forgiveness, and peace, so that my emotions reflect Your truth, and not the circumstances around me.
I will take every thought captive, and make it obedient to Christ, trusting that Your Word will guide me, and give me stability.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
