Day 49 of 75 days in Faith
A New Heart
With the new year fast approaching, new starts are often on people’s mind. But in order for a us to have successful new starts, God requires that we have a new heart.
In Ezekiel 36:26, God promises to give His people a new heart and a new spirit. This promise is part of a larger prophecy in which God promises to restore His people and give them a new start.
In Jeremiah17:9 and Romans 3:10-18, we are taught that hard hearts are sinful and rebellious against God. When we live with a hardened heart, we often times are unresponsive to God’s leading and guidance. It’s why no matter how much one may try to change their behavior or follow God’s rules, they’ll always fall short.
Thankfully in Ezekiel 36:26, God promises to give us a new heart and a new spirit. This new heart is not just a repaired or renovated version of our old hardened heart. It’s a completely new heart, one that is soft and responsive to God’s leading and guidance.
Some characteristics of a new heart:
– A new heart is one that is sensitive to God’s leading and guidance (Ezekiel 36:27). – A new heart is one that is obedient to God’s commands and desires to follow His ways (Ezekiel 36:27). – A new heart is one that is filled with God’s love and joy, and desires to share that love and joy with others (Romans 5:5). – A new heart is one that is broken and humble, recognizing our need for God’s mercy and grace (Psalm 51:17).
If you feel like you need to ask for a new heart, or maybe you’ve been putting in the work to soften your heart but there are still some hardened parts, it’s okay. All you have to do is repent, turn to God, ask Him for a new heart and trust in the fulfillment of His promise!

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Your word says in Ezekiel 36:26 that you will give us a new heart and put a new spirit in us; You will remove from us our hearts of stone and give us a heart of flesh.
Lord, we are asking for a new heart and that you will fulfill this promise in our lives. Although we have put in a lot of work, there are parts that still need to be softened.
We repent and ask for Your forgiveness. Remove any hardened and unyielding parts of our hearts, and give us a heart of flesh, which is soft and receptive to your Spirit.
Help us to be sensitive to your leading and guidance, and to be obedient to your will. Give us a new spirit, one that is filled with your love, joy, and peace.
Thank You for your promise of transformation. We trust in Your goodness and Your power to change us from the inside out.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
