Day 12 of 75 days in Faith
Releasing Unforgiveness, and Breaking the Cycles of Bondage
Scripture:
Matthew 18:21-22 “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
On day 12 of 75 days in Faith, we will discuss how (unforgiveness) can become a silent prison…
One that keeps us bound in cycles of bitterness, suspicion, and emotional pain. When we refuse to forgive, we are not only holding onto the offense but also inviting division, isolation, and even sin into our hearts.
After we’ve been hurt, or offended we are faced with the decision of justifying our unforgiving nature, or simply just forgiving that person and letting it go.
All of us, whether we would like to admit it or not have put into practice the silent treatment…
This my friend can be extremely enticing, highly divisive, and very dangerous for many reasons; the main reason being that we’re taking the situation into our own hands instead of trusting God to deal with it.
Have you ever knowingly held someone captive through the use of the silent treatment because they hurt you?
I think we all have at some point, but through true forgiveness we relinquish control over the emotions that cause us to react in that way…
Remember, forgiveness is one of the most powerful investments you will ever make in your mental, emotional, and physical health.
But unforgiveness is the opposite, it’s painful and will cost you more than you wanna pay.

The Cycle of Unforgiveness
Walking in unforgiveness means we are walking in the flesh. We’re vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks, especially when we allow pride and unresolved offenses to rule our hearts.
The devil loves unforgiveness because it opens a door for him to sow division. It’s his invitation to break relationships and disrupt the plans and vision God has for our lives.
Think of it this way:
What if the very breakthrough you are praying for is being delayed because unforgiveness has created a roadblock in your heart?
We’re praying Lord can you give us a breakthrough, and He’s saying yes I can but fix your heart first!
Could it be that God is trying to bless you through someone you’re holding a grudge against? When we refuse to forgive, we hinder God’s work in our lives.
The Role of Pride and Surrender
Forgiveness requires surrender—surrender of our pride, our need to be right, and our desire for vengeance. Surrendering these things to God allows the Holy Spirit to work in us and enables us to forgive, even when we feel like the person doesn’t deserve it. Remember, while we were still sinners, Christ forgave us. He offered us grace, not because we earned it, but because He loves us. We are called to extend that same grace to others.
The War within my mind…
Unforgiveness often fuels an inner battle, and our minds become consumed with negative assumptions about others. We imagine that people are plotting against us or gossiping about us even when there’s no evidence to support it.
These suspicions build walls in our relationships, and rob us of the peace God wants to give us. The enemy thrives when we operate in suspicion, division, and isolation.
But the Holy Spirit wants to use our imagination too. His desire is to transform our thoughts, aligning them with His, and helping us see others through the lens of grace and forgiveness.
Surrendering to God is the first step toward experiencing peace and healing. It’s through forgiveness that God restores relationships, renews our hearts, and opens the door to the blessings He has for us.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I surrender my pride, my hurt, and my need to be right into Your hands.
I release all unforgiveness, knowing that it only keeps me bound. Help me to forgive those who have wronged me, even when I feel like they don’t deserve it.
I choose to forgive, just as You have forgiven me. Heal my heart and renew my mind. Show me where I’ve been holding onto offenses, and help me to release them completely.
Let Your peace fill the spaces where unforgiveness once resided.
I trust You to heal, restore, and bring reconciliation in every area of my life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
