Lord, Help Me with My Unbelief
Mark 9:19-24 says, O unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, ‘How long has he been like this?’ ‘From childhood,’ he answered. ‘It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.’ “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
On day 18 of 75 days in Faith, we will discuss how our unbelief can affect our prayers, and relationship with Jesus Christ.
Above in Mark chapter 9, we read about a father who cared deeply for his son; and really wanted to see the manifestation of Gods power heal his son.
The son who was plagued by an evil spirit that tortured him for years, often placing him in life-threatening situations; needed help, and the father knew that only Jesus could save him!
The father, who’s watched over his child for many years was more than likely tired, weary, and stressed beyond our imagination.
And in desperation, pleads with Jesus: “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
Jesus had one of the realest responses!
“ If I can!?”
This response was Jesus saying, it’s not about if I can…
It’s more about DO YOU BELIEVE!?
All of us, if we were honest, can relate to the father in more ways than one; we believe in Jesus but not the fullness of His Dunamis power!
Like the father, we too have to ask Jesus to help us with our unbelief!
This moment in Mark 9 invites us to bring our doubts, our struggles, and our imperfect faith to Jesus. He doesn’t expect us to have it all figured out. He simply asks that we bring our unbelief to Him, and He will help us grow.
Ways to Overcome Unbelief:
1. Acknowledge Your Doubts If you’re struggling with unbelief, don’t hide your doubts from God. He knows your heart and He’s not afraid of your questions. 2. Seek Jesus: Ask Jesus for help in overcoming your unbelief. It’s okay to admit that you need His strength to get through the doubts. Pray that He would help you grow in faith, even in the moments where your heart feels cold and uncertain. 3. Trust in His Power Faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain! 4. Embrace God’s Timing Sometimes, our unbelief comes from frustration over God’s timing. Trust that His timing is perfect and that He is working even when you can’t see it.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I confess that I sometimes struggle with doubt, and unbelief. My heart wants to trust You fully, but I find myself wrestling with uncertainty, and fear.
I believe in Your power, and goodness; but I need Your help to overcome my unbelief. Strengthen my faith, help me to trust in Your perfect timing, and remind me that with You, all things are possible.
I give you my full surrender, all my doubts uncertainty, and fear I give to You.
You are Jehovah Rapha my healer, Jehovah Jireh my provider, and Jehovah Shalom my Lord of peace.
Thank you for healing me from my unbelief!
In Jesus’ name, Amen
