“Rest”oration is Found in Christ Jesus
Come to me, all you who are weary, and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. -Matthew 11:28:30
On Day 24 of 75 Days in Faith, we will focus on the importance of rest, and how it plays a huge role in our restoration.
Rest is not just a physical need, but also a mental, and spiritual one. Let’s get a better understanding why rest is essential, and how we can honor God by making it a priority in our lives.
In the Bible, Jesus gave us a perfect example of how to rest peacefully. Even in the midst of a storm he rested on a boat, and this is the example we should follow; to find rest in any situation!
We will cover rest mentally, physically, and spiritually below; along with the importance of each.
(Mental Rest)
Our minds can become easily overloaded with thoughts, worries, and tasks. When we don’t rest mentally, anxiety builds up, affecting our mood, and overall mental health. God’s Word encourages us to cast all our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7). Taking time to rest mentally allows us to find peace and restoration.
(Physical Rest)
Stress, and anxiety can take a toll on the body, when we don’t give ourselves proper rest, our physical health suffers.
Our bodies are designed by God to heal, and restore themselves while we sleep! God even rested after creating the world, showing us the importance of taking time to restore our physical strength (Genesis 2:2-3).
(Spiritual Rest)
Jesus took time to rest, and recharge spiritually, often going to a quiet places to pray, and connect with the Heavenly Father (Mark 1:35).
Spiritual rest is about renewing our spirit (in God’s presence) through His Word, and prayer. Resting in the Lord refreshes our spirit, and helps us maintain a close relationship with Him.
(Key takeaway)
On this journey of Faith, let’s remember that a big key to reducing stress, and achieving balance is planning our schedules. When we pre plan, we can carve out time for rest, and become more intentional about how we spend our time; which helps us avoid burnout, and live more efficiently!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today in need of Your peace, and rest. You are our Creator, our Sustainer, and our Healer, and we trust in Your ability to restore us in every area of our lives.
We ask for Your help as we seek rest for our mind, body, and spirit.
Lord, we pray for rest in our minds. As our thoughts often race, and we deal with worry, anxiety, and distractions.
We ask You to quiet the noise, and bring peace to our minds. Help us to fix our thoughts on You, knowing that You are in control of everything.
All this we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen
