“The Shelter of the Almighty”
Psalm 91
Psalm 91 is often called the “Soldier’s Psalm” or “The Psalm of Protection,” and for good reason. It is a declaration of God’s ability and willingness to protect His people from harm, whether it is physical, emotional, or spiritual. As we read through this psalm, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness and His constant care for those who trust in Him.
1. The Promise of Protection (Psalm 91:1-2) “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
The psalm begins by describing a relationship of intimacy with God—“whoever dwells.” To dwell means to live or remain, not just to visit. It speaks of a constant, ongoing relationship with God. Those who make God their refuge and their home, those who live in His presence, will experience His peace and protection.

The big picture of the “fowler’s snare” and “deadly pestilence” brings to light things that can suddenly, and unexpectedly harm us. (But God) promises to rescue us from all of these dangers. He is our shield against things that threaten us, both seen and unseen.

3. God’s Comfort and Safety (Psalm 91:4-7) “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” “You will not fear the terror of night nor the arrow that flies by day.”

Let us find rest in His shadow, knowing that He is with us, guiding us, and watching over us always.
