Day 54 of 75 Days in Faith
Overcoming Depression
It’s more common than you might think to not feel like your usual self. On this 54th day of our 75 days in faith, we will talk about depression and how to overcome it.
Signs of Depression:
– Sadness – Emptiness – Guilt – Worthlessness – Frustration or irritability
Ways to Overcome Depression:
– Stay active or exercise – Eat healthy foods – Get proper rest – Do things you enjoy – Be patient—your mood will change – Establish a routine – Avoid withdrawing from others
God knew that depression would affect our lives, which is why He sent the Holy Spirit as our comforter. He also gave us the Bible, filled with scriptures that can counter every emotion tied to depression.
Scriptures to Lift You in Times of Depression:
– Nehemiah 8:10 – “The joy of the Lord is my strength.” – Psalm 30:11 – “You have turned my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.” – Deuteronomy 31:8 – “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” – Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that the Word of God is alive, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. Use it when you face depression or anxiety. God’s Word gives strength to the powerless and hope to the hopeless.
Use it!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Help us to remember the power of Your Word when we are battling thoughts of depression.
Holy Spirit, teach us to apply scripture to our lives and give us discernment to recognize when our family members or loved ones are struggling, so that we may lift them up in prayer.
Align us with the right accountability partners who will support us and help us set healthy boundaries with our thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
We declare that we will put on the full armor of God, and depression will have no hold over us or our families.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
