Discipline and Self-Control
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline. — 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
Implementing discipline, and self-control can sometimes feel like burdens or restrictions. But in truth, they both are tools that empower us to live fully in God’s will.
The Apostle Paul reminds us that the Holy Spirit equips us with power, love, and (self-discipline) not to limit us, but to free us to live in alignment with God’s purposes.
Discipline is not about denying ourselves joy or freedom; but more about choosing what decisions are best for the path Gods called us to.
On day 70 of 75 days in Faith we are fixing our focus on resisting distractions, and temptations which can ultimately lead us away from the plan, and purpose of what God has called us to.
Self-control in the small, everyday choices creates a strong foundation for our spiritual lives.
Jesus modeled perfect discipline throughout His life. In the face of temptation, He remained obedient to His Father’s will. He was not swayed by short-term gratification, but kept His focus on the eternal.
This is the kind of self-control we are called to imitate, one that looks beyond the present moment and into God’s greater plan for us.
Let us remember today that self-discipline, empowered by the Holy Spirit, is not a restriction, but a pathway to a fruitful life.
It is through self-control that we honor God with our bodies, our minds, and our actions.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who empowers me with self-control. Help me to make wise choices, and stay focused on what pleases You.
Teach me to be disciplined in my thoughts, words, and actions, so that I may reflect Your glory in all things.
And please help me to bring all thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ, to bring peace, and joy where the enemy is using deception and lies.
All this I ask in Jesus name, Amen
